New Delhi: The Defence Minister of India, Rajnath Singh has announced that country’s new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) will be announced soon.
The first Chief of Defence Staff, Genaral Bipin Rawath, was martyred in a helicopter crash in December, last year. As part of expediting the recruitment process, the Central Government had recently amended the service rules of the armed forces.
Officers in the rank of Lieutenant General, Air Marshal and Vice Admiral, retired officers with three-star/ four-star ranks can also be considered for the post of CDS.
The position was created with the vision of ameliorating the coordination, tri-service effectiveness and overall amalgamation of the capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces. The first appointment was in the sixth month after the Narendra Modi Government elected for the second time in 2019.
