Chandigarh: The Panjab and Haryana High Court has ruled that a Muslim girl of 16 years can marry a boy of her choice. The ruling of P and H High Court division bench passed the order disposing a protection plea submitted by a 21 year man and a 16 year old girl. They approached the court, requesting to get protection of life and freedom from members of their family.
The order was passed by the bench of Justice Jasjit Singh. Both the man and girl, in the plea, contended that their marriage was solemnized as per Muslim rites and ceremonies on 8 June 2020 and as per Shariat Law, puberty and majority is one and the same. A Muslim man or a Muslim girl, while attaining puberty can marry a person of his or her choice.
