Wayanad, June 24 (UNI) Members of Students Federation of India (SFI) on Friday vandalised the office of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, representing the Lok Sabha constituency here, protesting against his silence on buffer zone issue.
Rahul Gandhi’s office in Kainatty near Kalpetta was attacked by the SFI activists, who were staging protest against the Supreme Court order mandating an Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ) declaring a 1 kilometre area around protected forest areas, wildlife sanctuaries and national parks.
Demanding Rahul Gandhi break his silence on the issue, the SFI activists led by the District Committee stormed Rahul Gandhi’s office and damaged chairs and furniture and manhandled office staff.
Following the attack, tension prevailed in the area as a large number of Congress workers rushed to the spot and staged protest marches to police station demanding action against the culprits.
Congress leader T Siddique MLA who demanded the response of the Kerala Chief Minister, alleged that the SFI goons were behind the attack.
Meanwhile, AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal alleged that it was a planned attack with the support of ruling CPI(M) in the State.
