Srinagar: The world renowned Amarnath pilgrimage has begun. The deputy commissioner Piyush Singla has flagged off the first group of pilgrims. The pilgrims have started their journey from Pahalgam village at Anantnag.
With strict security measures, the authorities decided to include 2750 pilgrims in the first group. Accompanied by the CRPF and Indo-Tibetan Border Guards, the pilgrims are getting ready to cross the Himalayan Mountains in southern Kashmir.
It takes three days to reach the cave temple in Amarnath. The Shiv Ling in the temple takes shape in the snow only during this season. Many people from youngsters to old age are applying for this pilgrimage and travelling the whole distance to watch this rare view of the Shiv Ling.
Due to the terrorist threats, the 43 days pilgrimage is being held under extreme protection and tight security.
