London, July 7 (UNI) Rafael Nadal has admitted that he is unclear whether he will be fit to play against Nick Kyrgios in Wimbledon semifinals tomorrow after an abdominal injury nearly forced him to quit against Taylor Fritz Wednesday.
“I can’t give you a clear answer because if I gave you a clear answer and tomorrow another thing happens, I will be a liar … I would undergo tests before deciding whether to play on at the All England Club,” Nadal told reporters at post-match press conference.
The Spaniard had to take a medical time-out in the second set, but came on the top by thrashing Fritz 3-6, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (10/4) in a gruelling contest lasting four hours and 21 minutes.
Meanwhile, Australian maverick Kyrgios beat Chile’s Cristian Garin comfortably 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (7/5).
Nadal said that his father and sister gestured to him to quit the quaterfinal match against Fritz but said he hated the idea. “I fought. Proud about the fighting spirit and the way that I managed to be competitive under those conditions,” he said.
Kyrgios is not an easy player to beat as he had beaten Nadal thrice out of the nine matches they played against each other.
