Thiruvananthapuram: The higher authorities meeting has decided to hand over the virtual queue system in Sabarimala, established by the police for the convenience of the devotees, to Travancore Devaswom Board. The decision was taken following an order from the high court. The police will continue to assist in the checking and controlling of the devotees. Devaswom board will take over 11 spot booking centres that were earlier controlled by the police.
The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by the CM Pinarayi Vijayan.
Devaswom board will implement special facilities to arrange the virtual queue. The IT department will be strengthened and give training to the employees if the need arises. The High Court had already expressed their doubts and displeasure over the police control of the virtual queue.
The spot booking and checking in Pampa and Nilackal will continue.
The meeting also assessed that police control is needed to control the crowd and to maintain law and order.
The meeting was chaired by Devaswom minister K. Radhakrishnan, President Adv K Ananthagopan and Chief Secretary Dr V P Joy.
