New Delhi, July 12 (UNI) The Delhi High Court on Tuesday adjourned to August 18 the hearing for anticipatory bail for Congress MP Karti Chidambaram in the alleged Chinese visas scam.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) registered a case under the provision of Prevention Money Laundering Act against Karti and others in the alleged scam pertaining to issuing visas to 263 Chinese nationals in 2011.
The agency has submitted that the laundered amount in the case was yet to be established and the bribe amount of Rs 50 lakh in the CBl case cannot be considered as the basis for the present case of PMLA.
After dismissal of anticipatory by the trial court, Karti Chidambaram moved the anticipatory bail before the Delhi High Court.
Counsel for ED opposed bail application by submitting that he cannot file the application without any genuine apprehension of his arrest.
Counsel for ED assured that no coercive action would be taken against Karti Chidambaram till the next date of hearing.
Delhi High Court Justice Poonam A Bamba adjourned the matter for further hearing on August 18.
