Thiruvananthapuram: State Health Minister Veena George has told media that monkeypox has been confirmed in Kerala. The patient with infection had reached Kerala from UAE. The male patient, aged 35, is a native of Kollam district.
This is the first ever case of monkeypox reporting in the country. The Health Minister told that there is nothing to be concerned at present. The co passengers of the patient have been already informed and his family members are under observation, said Veena George.
The patient has been shifted from a hospital in Kollam and now under treatment at Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram. The patient’s parents had close contact with him.
Alert has been issued to all districts especially to Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam. Health Minister requested that if anyone has the symptoms of monkeypox, must inform hospital authorities.
