New Delhi: Opposition parties announced Margaret Alva as the vice president candidate. She had served as the union minister earlier.
Margaret, a native of Karnataka, had served as the governor in various states including Gujarat, Rajasthan, Goa
and Uttarakhand.
The opposition parties selected Alva after the discussion in a meeting following the NDA’s announcement of vice
president candidate last day. 17 parties were present in the meeting namely the Congress, Trinamool, RJD, SP, Left oriented parties and NCP.
Margaret Alva who held the position of AICC joint secretary was a minister in Rajiv Gandhi’s Cabinet. Parliamentary Affairs, Youth-Sports-Women-Child Welfare and Human Resource Departments have been handled by her. Margaret is also the niece of former Rajya Sabha Speaker Violet Alva.
Her name was announced by NCP leader Sharad Pawar
