Bengaluru: Fire broke out onboard India’s aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya. The incident took place last day evening while travelling near Carvel coast in Karnataka.
As soon as the fire was noticed, the crew on board extinguished it using fire extinguishing systems.
This is the third time the INS Vikramaditya has caught fire. During 2019, a soldier lost his life due to the fire and 10 were injured. It caught fire in 2021 also.
Authorities clarified that there are no casualties this time and ordered for an investigation to find out the cause.
In 2013, the Russian made Vikramaditya became part of the Indian Navy.
The air wing consists of MiG-29K fighter jets and Kamov helicopters. The ship is 284 meters long, 60 meters high and weighs 40,000 tons. It is the largest and heaviest ship in the Indian Navy.
