New Delhi: The National Green Tribunal asked to scrap vehicles that are 15 years or more older. But the West Bengal government has said that they need time relaxation and this cannot be implemented soon.
The central government had already published an order to scrap old vehicles and this is being implemented by many states. But the West Bengal government said that they need extra time to execute it. Currently, the state has numerous vehicles.
It is not practically possible to scrap the vehicles within six months, said Transport Minister and Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim. He said this law would affect the economy.
The central government had sent notice on this but the National Green Tribunal has now ordered the scrapping of vehicles as soon as possible.
Currently, the state has more than 92 lakh vehicles that come under this category. The state needs more time to scrap such a huge number of vehicles and they also asked for extra time to plan the waste management.
The Centre for Environment’s Executive Director Anumita Roy has ordered an immediate resolution of all issues related to pollution.
