Kochi: NIA special court has convicted three people over the Kalamassery bus burning case.
Naseer, Sabir and Taj Uddin were found guilty. The sentence will be pronounced on 1 August. All three accused had confessed and the court stated that they were guilty.
The bus was set on fire in Kalamassery during a protest demanding the release of PDP leader Abdul Nasr Madani, who was imprisoned in the Coimbatore blast case.
The incident took place on 9 September, 2005 in Ernakulam KSRTC bus stand. They stopped a Tamil Nadu bus at gunpoint. After evacuating the passengers, they set the bus on fire.
The NIA filed the charge sheet in December 2010. Including the bus driver, the statements of eight people were recorded but the files were later lost. The trial of the case started in 2019.
There are 11 accused in the case including Madani’s wife. Now three of them were found guilty when all are about to face the trial.
