Kochi: The court has today pronounced the punishment for the three accused in the Kalamassery bus burning case. Thadiyantavida Naseer, the first accused, and Sabir, the fifth accused have been sentenced to 39.5 years. Thajudeen, the seventh accused is sentenced with 35 years imprisonment.
The three accused allegedly set fire to the bus plying between Ernakulam and Salem on 9 September 2005, demanding the release of PDP chairman Abdul Nasar Madani, who was detained in Coimbatore jail at that time. The court had convicted the three accused under IPC Sections 120B, 121A and Sections 16(1) (b) and 18 of UA(P) Act on 29 July.
Apart from the imprisonment, Nasser has slapped with a fine of one lakh seventy five thousand rupees and Thajuden with one lakh and ten thousand rupees.
Though the accused have been punished with 39.5 years and 35 years under different Sections, Thadiyantavida Naseer and Sabir have to be in jail for 7 years and Thajudeen, for six years.
