Birmingham: India has got its tenth medal in weight lifting. India’s Gurdeep Singh has won the bronze medal in the men 109 kg session. He has lifted 390 kilogram in total.
Sigh could not lift 167 kg in the first attempt. At the same time he lifted the same weight at a faster pace the second time. He again failed to lift 173 kg in the third round. In the clean and jerk level he lifted 207 kg in the first attempt. He again failed to lift 217 but finally lifted 223 kilograms successfully.
“Hardwork and dedication leads to outstanding outcomes…this is what Gurdeep Singh has shown by winning the Bronze medal in weightlifting at the CWG. He has furthered the spirit of joy among our citizens. Congratulations and best wishes to him”, the PM tweeted.
Union sports minister Anurag Singh Thakur also congratulated Gurdeep Singh.
“Congratulations Gurdeep on bringing home the 10th medal in weightlifting at CWG2022. The entire contingent has been brilliant. Another medal winner from NSNIS Patiala, which has been the cradle of champions for decades now, and has in this edition of CWC given India 10 medals”, tweeted Thakur.
So far India has won 17 medals in the Commonwealth Games.
Currently, Australia is in the top position with 46 gold medals followed by England with 38 gold medals.
