Idukki: Mullaperiyar dam shutters to be opened today. The decision was taken in the background of heavy rainfall. Minister Roshy Augustine said that the people living on the banks of Periyar should remain careful.
The first two shutters of the dam will open at 11 am today. The shutters will be risen up to 30 centimetres.
Rainfall continues in the catchment areas of Mullaperiyar dam.
Currently water level reaches at a height of 137.25 . The maximum capacity of the dam is 137.50.
534 cubic metres of water will be drained out of the dam in the first 2 hours. After that, the amount will be raised to 1000 cubic metres. The total amount of water in the dam is 10 feet larger than last year. As the danger situation persists in the region, the authority asked for two additional teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
