Birmingham: India’s Avinash Sable has won silver medal in Men’s 3000 meter Steeple Chase. This is the first time India has won a medal in the steeplechase at the Commonwealth Games
For the last three times, the first three positions of the steeplechase were taken by the Kenyan players. This time, Avinash completed the 3000 m game in 8 minutes and 11 seconds.
He has started the game by crossing his own record of 8:12 in the Rabat Diamond League held earlier this year. Kenya’s Abraham Kibiwot has won gold in the Rabat Diamond League. Avinash lost the gold by just 0.05 seconds and Kenya’s Amos Serem has got bronze in the same.
He has been receiving appreciations for his marvelous performance that fetched a medal to the nation in steeplechase for the first time.
“What an amazing race Avinash Sable! Clinching a silver in steeplechase at #CWG2022 with a personal best timing and a national record is a matter of pride! We watch your amazing triumph and hold our breath until the finish line! Congratulations!” tweeted Anurag Thakur.
Avinash Sable was in the 11th position at the World Athletic Championship held at Oregon last month. But he surpassed his own record this time.
