Thiruvananthapuram: An attempt was reported in which a group of people used Pinarayi Vijayan’s fake WhatsApp account to loot money.
The group sought money from a police officer using the fake account.
The incident took place following similar cases that used other ministers’ fake IDs to snatch money.
The police have registered a complaint and the investigation is being progressed.
The case has been registered on the complaint of J Jayanath, Head of Coastal Security Division based in Kochi.
A WhatsApp message was received on 3 August from a number 8099506915, displaying CM Pinarayi Vijayan’s picture in the profile . The person who sent the message asked for money, the police officer said.
Earlier, fake accounts appeared in the name of other ministers including Health Minister Veena George.
During March, 14 lakh rupees were looted from the account of a teacher using a fake profile of DGP Anil Kanth.
