Kolkata: It is reported that India’s first underwater metro will be completed by June 2023. This was informed by Kolkata Metro Rail Co-operation which has the responsibility in the construction of East-West Corridor project.
This metro line connects Howrah through Kolkata under the river Hooghly. 9.30km from the total 16.55km of the project has already been started functioning. The officials informed that the remaining 7.25km will be completed within a year.
As it connects Howrah, Seeldha railway stations and Kolkata metro’s North-South Line, it will be a great relief for lakhs of passengers. Out of the total length of 16.55 km, the section that goes under the river is 10.8 km.
Earlier, it was announced that the project will be completed by December 2021. But the accidents that took while the construction of tunnel in Bowbazar, Kolkata made the project in delay.
