Idukki: Rule curve limit of Mullaperiyar dam turns to 138.4 feet from today. It is assessed that the water level may decrease to this limit at the current situation. At present it is 139.15 feet. The decrease in the water level is a great relief for the people living on the banks of Periyar river. 13 shutters were raised by 90 cm and more than 10,000 cubic feet of water released from Mullaperiyar. Due to this, many houses from Vallakadav to Vandiperiyar were flooded.

85 families were relocated due to the possibility for over flow. There are 140 people in two relief camps. The water flow to the Mullaperiyar Dam has reduced as the amount of rain in the catchment area have changed. With this the water level got decreased. It is estimated that the water level can be brought to the rule curve limit of 138.4 feet starting from today.

Despite the release of more water from the Idukki Dam, the water level has not decreased significantly. Through Cheruthoni river, three and a half lakh liters of water flows to Periyar per second . If the water level rises more water will flow out from Idukki gradually.
