Thrivananthapuram: It is reported that the heads of the department had done a serious mistake in the death of a patient who was undergoing organ transplant surgery at the Medical College Hospital. The report is against the head of nephrology department. The report also states that the delay in reaching the kidney was not the cause of the patient’s death. Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department submitted the report.
According to the report, the transplant agency coordinators were not present there at the time. The heads of nephrology and urology departments had to supervise the surgical procedures. But they had failed in this. The other departments have also failed in collecting patient’s information, etc. Disciplinary action should be taken against the delinquents, states the report.
Health Minister Veena George admitted that there was a lapse in the incident. The Minister said that there has been a failure in coordination. A patient undergoing treatment in Ernakulam suffered brain death and his kidney was brought to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. Later, on the next day, the other patient who underwent a kidney transplant had died. The deceased was Suresh Kumar, a native of Karakonam.
