Ernakulam: Idamalayar Dam will be opened partlially tomorrow at 10 am to meet the rule curve in water level. It has been decided to open two shutters 50 cm each and let out 65 cumex of water.
The District Collector clarified that the water flow to the dam is low but the action is to control the water level as a precaution. The water level in Periyar is currently low. Meanwhile, all the shutters of Cheruthoni dam in Idukki water reservoir were closed. The water level in the dam has gone down as the rains have decreased in the district. The shutters of the dam were closed around 7 am when the water flow decreased.
30,000 liters of water flown out through one shutter per second. The water level in the dam is 2386.74 feet. The quantity of water that can be stored in the dam as per the current rule curve is 2386.81 feet. At the same time the water level was 2371.40 feet last year. The water level in Mullaperiyar is 138 feet.
