NewDelhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged all Indians to acheive self sufficiency in energy production. The announcement was while the country celebrates its 75th independence anniversary. India, being the third biggest oil consuming and importing nation, has already achieved the target of blending 10% of ethanol with petrol, ahead of the schedule.
85% of oil consumption and 50% of gas consumption in our country are imported. Alternative sources are therefore an alternative way to reduce imports. One way is to switch to hydrogen use and from petrol and diesel vehicles to electric vehicles. The central government believes that the use of electric vehicles and consumption of energy sources ranging from solar to hydrogen will help the country achieve self-sufficiency in the energy sector.
The aim was to blend ethanol produced from agricultural products into petrol to reduce the use of imported oil. Currently, India has achieved this goal. Figures show that the country was able to save Rs 50,000 crore even after achieving the initial target of 10 percent.
