NewDelhi: Wing Commander Deepika Mishra has now become the first woman Air Force officer to receive the Airforce Medal. Deepika Mishra was awarded the Air Force Medal for bravely facing the flood in northern Madhya Pradesh and performing excellent rescue operations.
The IAF stated that the rescue operation was commendable despite very bad weather and heavy winds. Deepika was also the first to reach the affected area.
Group Captains Rahul Singh and Ravi Nanda were also awarded Air Force Medals for their bravery in ‘Operation Devi Shakti’, which was launched to bring Indians from Kabul after the Taliban’s invasion in Afghanistan. 669 people were evacuated from Afghanistan under the operation.
