Thiruvananthapuram: The Health Department has not made any permanent solution for the shortage of medicines in the state. Earlier, it was announced that the collection of medicines will be completed by the first week of August but the non completion of procedures made it delay.
It’s reported that those who come to the pharmacies of government hospitals with prescriptions have to return empty-handed. But even as the Health Minister claims that steps have been taken to solve the medicine shortage, the reality is that most of them are not available. The delay in tender procedures led to crisis. In previous years the tender was called in December. The list was finalized by February, the purchase order was placed in March, and the medicines would start arriving by mid-April. But this time the tender process was done in mid-June. Eventhough it was announced that the distribution would be done by August, the collection of medicines has not reached anywhere.
The health ministry being tried to transfer medicines from the surplus areas to the places facing lack of meficines. There was also a serious failure from health department in procuring medicine for rabies. Medicines such as oral antibiotics, injection kits and amoxicillin are also facing shortages currently.
