Thiruvananthapuram: It has been decided to import more medicine for rabies in the state. The Kerala Medical Services Corporation is importing the medicine as an increase in the number of stray dogs’ attack and rabies.
There was a serious lapse from the part of the health department in acquiring essential medicines despite reports of street dog attacks and deaths due to rabies in the state. Finally, the drug equine rabies immunoglobulin was urgently delivered from the Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation. Kerala Medical Services Corporation has decided to import more medicines now based on the demand.
Bite from stray dog with rabies may cause the virus to spread rapidly through the body and will lead to death. But equine rabies immunoglobulin can stop the spread of the virus. The permission from the Central Drugs Laboratory is also required to deliver this medicine to Kerala.
