NewDelhi: Delhi Special prosecutor stated that the popular front is behind the riot in Shaheen Bagh. SSP Amit Prasad informed the High Court about this while considering the bail plea of the mastermind Umar Khalid.
A bench comprising Justices Siddharth Mridul and Ranjeesh Bhatnagar heard the bail plea. The court said it will hear the case again on Thursday. Amit Prasad had earlier stated that many people had conspired in the riots and PFI played an important role.
Prasad also said that these things have come to light from WhatsApp chats. He informed the bench that activist Natasha Narwal led the agitations in Silampur area and it was clear from the chats.
Khalid was booked under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and the Indian Penal Code. In March, the Delhi lower court rejected Khalid’s bail plea. He was arrested in September 2020 in connection with the Delhi riots.
