NewDelhi: In a major setback for the party, Ghulam Nabi Azad, a senior leader and former Union Minister, has resigned. He resigned from all positions including primary membership. He was the leader of the G23 rebel group of Congress.
Earlier, he had resigned from the post of Chairman of Election Campaign Committee of Jammu and Kashmir. Ghulam Nabi Azad came out against many policies of the party which provoked the leaders including Sonia Gandhi.
From 2009 to 2014, he served as the Minister of Health and Family Welfare in the second UPA government. Azad was the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha from 2014 to 2021 and served as a member of Rajya Sabha for 5 times, Member of Lok Sabha for 2 times, and the CM of Jammu and Kashmir from 2005 to 2008.
