Tokyo: India has won a bronze medal in men’s doubles for the first time in the history of World Badminton after its success at the Commonwealth Games. The team of Satvik and Chirag won the bronze medal.
Although they lost to the Malaysian team in the semis, they secured the bronze medal. The Indian side won the match with the score of 20-22, 21-18, 21-16. This is India’s first World Championship medal in men’s doubles.
In 2011, the women’s team Jwala Gutta-Ashwini Ponnappa won the first doubles medal for India. In singles, H S Prannoy’s battle ended in quarter final. It was this disappointment that the Satwik-Chirag team corrected with a medal win. The men’s team won India’s 13th medal in the history of the World Championships.
