Ernakulam: The two shutters of Idamalayar Dam were raised upto 50cm after the water level rose. As the excessive water release out from the dam, district administration has warned the people on the banks of Periyar to be extremely cautious.
The water flow is strong due to rainfall in the catchment area of the dam. The shutters of Idamalayar Dam have been raised considering the water flow into the dam and the rain warning in the district. It is decided to raise the shutters from 50 to 100 cm and let 68 to 131 cumex of water out.
Currently, the water level is 164.05m. The shutters of the dam are opened when the water level reaches 164 meters. District Collector Renuraj informed that the people on the banks of Periyar should be cautious. A ban has been imposed on crossing the river, fishing and tourism in the river.
