Kochi: The Kerala Government, today informed the High Court that it cannot allot 103 crore rupees for KSRTC to distribute the pending salaries and bonus for Onam. The Government has filed a plea against the Single Bench verdict which ordered to provide the amount for KSRTC. The Government has also informed before the court that the former is not accountable to pay KSRTC salaries.
Justice Devan Ramachandran had earlier suggested the Government to provide 103 crore rupees to the KSRTC before 1 September, as the road transport corporation is facing financial crisis.
KSRTC management had informed the HC that amid financial straits, it is helpless to pay the salaries of July and August. Though discussions were held, the issue remained unsolved. The KSRTC management has requested the court to give some more time for providing payment to employees. It was under this circumstances, that the HC observed that it cannot leave employees starving on Onam and directed the Government to provide 100 crores for the distribution of salaries and another 3 crores, to pay festival bonus to workers.
As the Government denies to provide the requisite amount for salary distribution, the tale if woes will continue for KSRTC employees, even during Onam days.
