Thiruvananthapuram: The health department of the State, supposed to extend full support to maintain the well being of the people, has failed again in the issue of controlling rabies too. A total of 56 people have died due to rabies in last six years.
As many as ten lakh stray-dog bite cases were reported. In the state capital Thiruvananthapuram alone, five stray dog bite related death reported this year.
From January 2016 to July 20121, a total of 8,09,629 cases of stray dog attacks were reported. The statistics speaks the surge in dog attack and rabies infection across the state.
Though stray dog bites and rabies are a serious issue of concern, the state health department’s shoddy performance has worsened the situation.
The vaccines used were below minimum standard and that caused a surge in rabies cases. Janam TV has collected the documents and it is evident from the reports that the poor performance of the health department has actually failed to control rabies in the state.
