Kannur: Gold worth Rs 1,34,00,000 was seized by the Customs Preventive Department from Karipur International Airport. The gold was seized based on secret information received by the officials.
874.300 grams of gold, worth around Rs 45,40,000 was seized from a native of Kozhikode who landed in an Air India Express flight from Dubai. Apart from this, the officers also seized 572.650 grams of gold worth around Rs 29,74,000 from the native of Koduvalli.
As the investigation continued, 1132.400 grams of gold was recovered from a native of Vellayur, Malappuram, who landed on a Gulf Air flight from Jeddah through Bahrain. He tried to smuggle gold worth around Rs 58,20,000.
Customs officers have tightened checking as passengers try to smuggle gold through the airport. On the basis of the information received and focused on suspicious passengers, gold worth crores of rupees was seized.
