Kochi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented India’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant to the nation today. The Prime Minister officially handed over the ship to the Navy. Along with this, he presented the new flag of the Indian Navy to the nation. It is also the first aircraft carrier built by India. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal attended the commissioning ceremony of INS Vikrant.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh received the Prime Minister who arrived at Cochin Shipyard around 9.30 am. The Navy honored the Prime Minister with a Guard of Honor. Then he reached the venue where the inauguration was held.
Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister said that the sea coast of Kerala has witnessed a new sunrise of Bharat. Vikrant is our pride. INS Vikrant is not just an aircraft carrier but a symbol of effort and perseverance. It is a symbol of pride to every Indian. Vikrant is vast and distinguished. He said that the aim is not only to make in India but also to make for the world.
Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R. Harikumar said that through Atmanirbhar Bharat, the Navy can achieve great results. Vikrant is a step towards this. The Prime Minister also unveiled the new flag of the Navy. The Navy Chief said that the new flag received by the Navy is a proud achievement.
Speaking on the occasion, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that this is a symbol of self-sufficiency. He also stated that Vikrant will be an asset to the country. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R. Harikumar, Chief of Southern Naval Command Vice Admiral M A Hampi Holi, Cochin Shipyard Limited CMD Madhu S Nair and others also participated in the function.
