Idukki: Gopalan, who killed a tiger that attacked him in Mankulam farm, will be honored with the Karshaka Veerashree Award. The decision belongs to the political Kisan Maha Sangh State Committee. Gopalan, who was seriously injured in the tiger attack, is undergoing treatment at Adimali Taluk Hospital. It has been decided to provide all aids to him. Gopalan has been given a grant of Rs 5000 by the forest department.
Last day, a tiger attacked Gopalan. Meanwhile, he attacked the tiger with a knife to save his life. During the autopsy of the tiger’s body it was revealed that the cause of death was a head injury. A ten-year-old tigress weighing 40kg died. The autopsy was conducted by the National Tiger Identification Committee. The body was then cremated near Mankulam Range Office.
The forest department has not registered a case against Gopalan for killing the tiger as a measure of self protection. It has been decided to provide an awareness class by the forest department for those living on the forest borders.
