Kollam: A case of human trafficking has been registered in an attempt of transporting people illegally to Canada by boat. The case was registered against 11 people. Two of them are Sri Lankan natives and nine are from Sri Lankan refugee camp in Tamil Nadu.
Laxman, a native of Colombo, has been found to be the main agent in human trafficking. Two among the gang, arrested in Kollam yesterday, were Laxman’s aides.
Meanwhile, the group’s first attempt to reach Canada on August 16, through Karakad, Tamil Nadu had failed.
The agent assured the refugees that they would reach Canada by boat within 45 days and he also informed the refugees that the boat will reach Kollam beach today evening. He received 2.5 lakh rupees from each person. They only considered youngsters.
