Alappuzha: Mallappuzhasherry wins in the Aranmula boat race held today in Pamba river at Aranmula, a village in Pathanamthitta. Kuriyannoor has received the second prize. This time, the race has come back to its full swing after a 2-year break due to the pandemic.
The race was held in A and B batches. Mallappuzhasherry won the cup from A batch and Idappavoor from the B batch. Chirayirambu has received the third position in the race.
49 boats participated in race. The first prize was given after considering several factors like the ‘vanjippattu’ (the traditional song that is being sung by the people in the boat), rowing style, appearance, dressing and discipline.
Vanmazhi got the R Sankar trophy for the best appearance. From A batch, the second and third positions were received by Kuriyannoor and Chirayirambu. From B batch Pullupuram and Vanmazhi received the second and third positions.
The renowned Aranmula boat race was started with a water procession that evoked the heritage of Aranmula. Kummanam Rajashekharan, the former Mizoram governor flagged off the game.
