Heavy rain lashes Maharashtra

Mumbai: Heavy rains lashed Marathwada, Konkan, Vidharbha and Madhya Maharashtra regions of the state overnight leading to flash flood in some areas. Three women from Rajasthan were swept away in Aurangabad flash flood.

Both Godavari and Manyad rivers have flooded. The India Meteorological Department has forecast possibility of rain in most places in the next two days in all the divisions of the state.

In Aurangabad, rivers and canals in Walaj Mahanagar and Tisgaon area were flooded. Of the three women, who were swept away in the flood, two have been rescued.

Fire brigade immediately had rushed to the spot and started rescue operation. One of the women still remain missing, said sources.

Water reservoirs are nearing their full capacity in many areas, as per information.

Due to heavy rains in Khamgaon village of Phulumbri taluka of district, crops were washed away and water entered many houses.
The historic Harsul Lake near Aurangabad has started to overflow due to heavy rain in the catchment areas. Civic administration have alerted people residing near river Kham to be on alert for evacuation.

Reports from Paithan stated that 18 gates of Jayakwadi dam have been opened four feet each, and water is being released at a rate of 75,456 cubic feet per second. At present the dam is filled up above 98 per cent.

One person from Masai Tanda was killed due to lightning in Ambad taluka.

Six gates of Lower Dudhana dam in Partur taluka have been opened by one foot, and 6,600 cubic feet per second is being discharged.

In Nanded, four gates of the Vishnupuri project and two gates of Limboti project in Loha taluka have been opened.
