New Delhi: Indian Ocean is the future of Indian economy, Earth Sciences Minister Jitendra Singh said as he informed about a mega campaign to clean beaches across the country which will culminate on September 17, the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Singh said a 75-day long campaign for cleaning 75 beaches across the country was launched on July 5. It will end on September 17, International Coastal Cleanup Day, which is also PM Modi’s birthday.
The program is focused on ensuring that plastic and other waste does not go to sea.
“We have a huge stake in the health of oceans and preserving its resources. It is not just ocean it is the future economy of India,” Singh said.
Swachh Sagar Surakshit Sagar, a 75 day long campaign to clean 75 beaches across the country will culminate on September 17. Around 15000 tonnes of garbage is expected to be picked up on the day in a mega cleaning drive.
The campaign has strategic underlying goals that target transformation and environmental conservation through behavior change. The three underlying goals of the campaign are to consume responsibly, segregate waste at home and dispose responsibly.
