Mumbai: DGP Rajaneesh Seth seeks a detailed report on the incident of monks being attacked at Sangli in Maharashtra. The monks were suspected to be child kidnappers and beaten by the mob. DGP asked for a detailed report on the incident from Sangli SP Dixit Gadaam. The locals are being interrogated over the issue.
DGP said that there is no complaint received on the incident and the footage is being evaluated. He also said that strict actions will be taken against the culprits.
The incident took place last day. Four monks from Uttar Pradesh reached the place in a car to visit Pandharpur, a temple region at Bijapur in Karnataka. The monks approached a boy to clarify the route and people who came to see this accused that the monks were child kidnappers and beaten them up.
The locals hit the monks using sticks. Following the incident, the police reached the place and found that the monks were coming from Uttar Pradesh to visit the temple.
