Belgrade: India’s Vinesh Phogat wins bronze at World Wrestling Championships. Phogat won the medal for India by defeating Sweden’s Jonah Malmrenoff 8-0 in the play-off. The achievement is in the 53 kg category.
Phogat competed even with a knee injury. Although at one stage it seemed that the pain would affect her performance, Phogat fought through the pain and won the medal.
Vinesh Phogat also won bronze in the 2019 World Wrestling Championship. Phogat is the first Indian wrestler to win medals in two world championships. Vinesh Phogat won a gold medal for India in the last Commonwealth Games.
