Strong earthquake in Taiwan; several buildings collapsed
Taipei: Strong earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale occurred at 12.14 pm on Sunday in Taiwan. The US Geological Survey reports that the epicenter of the earthquake was 85 kilometers east of Yujing District, Taiwan.

The strong earthquake was followed by several aftershocks. Footage of a two-storey building collapsing near the epicenter came out through social media.

Following the earthquake, the Taiwan Railway Department has suspended trains on the Hualien-Taitung route. The high-speed rail service has also been suspended.
A tsunami warning was issued in neighboring Japan after a strong earthquake in Taiwan. A warning says waves up to 3 feet high are possible.
This is the second earthquake to hit Taiwan in 24 hours. Taitung was hit by a magnitude 6.4 earthquake last night. There have been no reports of casualties.
