Rabies infection was confirmed in a stray dog that bit locals in Pampadi yesterday. The dog bit seven people, including a student who was sleeping in the house. Nisha, a housewife, had about thirty four wounds on her stomach and chest. Five other people who came to save her were also bitten.
Although the locals killed the dog, it was suspected that the dog attacked because of rabies infection. The panchayat has decided to take further preventative measures based on the post-mortem report. All those bitten were vaccinated from Kottayam Medical College. Local bodies have intensified awareness programs about rabies infection.
