Thiruvananthapuram: NIA said that the Popular Front workers arrested in the state had helped in IS activities. The NIA stated in the court that the accused were involved in the crime of assisting IS activities and conspiring to commit anti-national activities.
PFI National President OMA Salam, National Secretary Nasruddin Elamaram, Mohammad Basheer, K P Jazeer, K P Shafir, P Abubakar, E M Abdul Rahman and P Koya were arrested in a case registered in Delhi. Karamana Ashraf Maulavi, Sadiq Ahmed, Shihas, Ansari and M M Mujeeb were arrested in the case from Kerala.
The highest number of arrests came from Kerala with 22, Maharashtra and Karnataka with 20 each, Tamil Nadu with 10, Assam with 9, Uttar Pradesh with 8, Andhra Pradesh with 5 and Madhya Pradesh with 4. Three PFI activists were arrested in Puducherry and Delhi and two in Rajasthan. Meanwhile, the arrested Popular Front leaders of Kerala have been sent into NIA custody. NIA has registered five cases against Popular Front workers. After the raid, 106 people were arrested across the country. The raid took place in 93 centers of the Popular Front.
