Kochi:  The action against the Popular Front of India was called ‘Operation Octopus’. Government sources also said that 106 people have been arrested so far in Operation Octopus. The 300 personnel who were part of Operation Octopus were instructed not to release any information about the raid as it was aimed at arresting Popular Front terrorists.

Apart from those arrested, more than 200 people are in custody. ED and NIA have found that Popular Front workers were involved in anti-national activities. PFI activists were involved in terror funding, organizing training camps, inducting people into terrorist organizations. They attempted violence and acts of terrorism with the aim of creating rivalry between religious groups. Special training camps were also organized for this purpose.

The NIA also stated that the arrested Yasser Hasan and some others organized weapons training camps to prepare youths for terrorist activities. The NIA is mainly investigating 19 cases related to the organization. The detailed report of the investigation will be handed over to the Union Home Ministry in the coming days.

At the same time, the ED stated that the leaders of the organization received the money sent by the Popular Front terrorists from abroad through the NRI account. 120 crores have been transferred to the account in the last few years of the Popular Front and its affiliates. But PFI said that they had not received foreign funds. The investigation team has also collected evidence for this from the bank accounts of those arrested from Kerala.
