Srinagar: A gun battle raged between militants and security forces in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday evening, police said.
The gunfight broke out at Ahwatoo area of Kulgam when joint teams of forces launched a cordon and a search operation (CASO) following an input about militants’ presence.
“As the joint team of security forces reached a particular spot the hiding militants opened fire and the force men retaliated that triggered an encounter”, a police officer said.
A police spokesman said the security forces are on job.
“Encounter has started at Ahwatoo area of Kulgam. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow”, Jammu and Kashmir Police tweeted.
This was the second encounter that erupted in the district. On Monday a foreign Pakistani militant identified as Abu Hurarah of Jaish-e-Mohammad was killed and three people, including two civilians, were injured during an anti-militancy operation in Batpora area of Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir.
