New Delhi: Supreme Court said with a crucial verdict that said that all women have the right for abortion. Just like a married woman, an unmarried woman also has the right to abort. In the matter of abortion, the sexual harassment of husband can also be considered as rape. The verdict has been issued by a bench headed by Justice D Y Chandrachood.
The SC has now pointed out that an abortion after 24 weeks can be done by both married and unmarried women. It is a woman’s choice to decide whether she needs to conceive or not. So, an unmarried woman also has equal rights on this. The decision is solely based on the women.
The SC said that the sexual harassment by the husband can be considered as rape and the woman has all right to abort the pregnancy resulting from that.
Earlier a petition was filed on a similar incident. An unmarried woman approached the High Court to abort her 24 week old foetus. The petition had reached the Supreme Court.
