Mumbai: Customs seized 5 kg of heroin worth Rs 34 crore at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The passenger tried to smuggle the drug by hiding it in a specially prepared secret case inside the trolley bag. The heroin was found when the Customs officers conducted an inspection following a tip-off.
He was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Last day, customs seized 490 grams of cocaine worth Rs 4.9 crore hidden under shoes at the Mumbai airport.
In a special order issued by the Customs Department at the Mumbai airport, it will have full powers to check illegal drugs, gold, tobacco, cigarettes, currency, liquor etc. Officials say the law is helpful to catch the smugglers.
