Kannur: Former Home Minister and CPIM State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s mortal remains cremated at Payyambalam with full state honours. His body was consigned to flames near the memorials of former Chief Minister E K Nayanar and CPM leader Chadayan Govindan.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had accompanied Kodiyeri’s mortal remains from Kanur Airport . The cortege reached to Payyambalam from Azheekkodan Mandiram, the CPM district committee office at 3 pm. Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, P B member Prakash Karat, BJP leader Valsan Thillankeri, C K Padmanabhan, opposition leader V D Satheeshan and several other leaders paid homage to Kodiyeri Balakrishnan.
Kodiyeri breathed his last at 8 pm on Saturday, while undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital in Chennai.
