New Delhi: The Election Commission today expressed that seeking votes by giving false promises is anti-democratic move. The parties are responsible to inform the people about the financial plans so as to keep their promises. The EC has sent letter directing this to the parties.
The Election Commission also informed that to conduct a flaw free poll, transparency and decency are inevitable. All citizens must have a good and fear free environment to cast their votes.
The Election Commission asked parties to keep all financial records of their plans and proceedings.
The parties are liable to reveal the financial source and flow of the freebies they offer to the voters while campaigning for votes.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier stated that votes-for-freebies method will cause serious impact and such practices will impose unnecessary burden to treasuries. Prime Minister’s opinion was later approved by the Supreme Court too. And in the new development, the Election Commission too has underlined the same stand on freebies.
