Thiruvananthapuram: Drugs worth crores of rupees flow into the state every day. It is reported that an average of 77 cases are registered across the state a day. Most of them are very serious drugs like MDMA and hashish oil. School children are also involved in drug addiction. Figures indicate that 20,857 cases have been registered till October this year.
The figures of drugs found in various places in 2022 are as follows,
Cannabis – 3,203.8 kg
Hashish – 33,230.4 g
Brown Sugar – 103.7 g
Heroin – 129.9 g
MDMA – 6,489.5 g
1,254 people have been arrested for selling drugs in school premises. In this situation, the Excise Department has initiated measures to tighten the action against the drug mafia. The law will be tightened so that those who sell drugs will be severely punished. For this purpose, a proposal to amend the NDPS Act has been submitted to the Centre.
